RENEWAL FOR MARGATE & CLIFTONVILLE - AT LAST! Kent County councillor Clive Hart is delighted with the recommendation by Thanet District Council officers to declare all of Margate Central and Cliftonville West wards as renewal areas. The long awaited recommendation will finally be discussed at the TDC Cabinet meeting on Thursday 2nd August. During an open debate on regeneration across Kent at County Hall back on 17th May, Cllr. Hart, Labour member for Margate & Cliftonville, called on the help of KCC Leader Paul Carter and KCC Chief Executive Peter Gilroy in pressing Thanet District Council to expand the Neighbourhood Renewal Area which at present only covers part of the Cliftonville West District ward and Trinity Square in Margate. At the KCC meeting Cllr. Hart explained that the original aspirations for the scheme were for it to encompass Cliftonville West and Margate Central, but after two years, even the second phase had not yet been declared. Cllr. Hart said ‘I took the opportunity during KCC meeting at county Hall back in May to ask both the KCC Leader Paul Carter and the Chief. Executive Peter Gilroy to join the local district councillors and myself in pressing for declaration of further areas of the Neighbourhood Renewal scheme. Residents across the deprived areas of the town are keen to see the scheme working for them and along with the district councillors for Margate Central & Cliftonville West I have been pressing consistently over the past year for expansion of the original scheme. I therefore welcome the recommendation from the TDC officers to expand the scheme and eagerly await a positive cabinet decision and consultation with local residents’.
