More Government Money & New Facilities for Northfleet North Ward

Lawn Primary School, linked to The Hive and Wallis Park, has now been confirmed as the location for one of the 52 children’s centres being developed between now and March 2008 in Kent. Children and Parents alike will benefit from the new facilities in the Northfleet North area of Gravesham.

Under the Governments Sure Start Programme, services are already being provided in the Northfleet North area including:

  • · Weigh in and Health Clinic.
  • · Stay and Play.
  • · Hearing Tests.
  • · Midwifery Advice.
  • · Speech and Language Development Advice.

Plans have now been agreed for a new day care centre at Lawn Community Primary School. This will be a modular build with up to £200,000 of Government money being invested.

Ray Parker County Councillor for Northfleet & Gravesend West welcomed the news saying: “This is fantastic news for young children and parents in Northfleet North, the Sure Start programme already offers many invaluable services, to get a dedicated day care centre will really be a great asset for the community”.

Sure Start is based at the Hive and uses Wallis Park Family Centre and other venues in Northfleet North to deliver its services. With day care facilities, young parents will have the opportunity of returning to work early knowing that their children are cared for and given an excellent start in life.

Ray Parker went on to say: “Sure Start already offers advice to young parents on returning to work, with professional day care services in the area parents can choose to go back to work earlier knowing that their child is in good hands”.
