MORE CASH FOR CHILDREN’S CENTRES IN KENT

Unprecedented Government money has been allocated for early years support in Kent, with another huge funding boost for Sure Start Children's Centres, Extended Schools and funding to support parents and carers of children from a variety of backgrounds.

Kent County Council will receive over £88 million over the next three years for early years and childcare, including over £50.5 million to expand the number of Children’s Centres.  This exciting news means every child will have the best start in life!

Early years are crucial to their children’s development and future prospects. The Labour Government have already invested a huge amount in improving the early years services and introducing Sure Start Children’s Centres, in order to give every child the best start in life.

Sure Start has made a huge difference to the lives of so many families. Much of this is down to the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers at the various Sure Start Centres, which provides childcare, early years education, health services with support and advice for parents and carers, all under one roof.

Kent County Council Labour Shadow Cabinet Member for Education, Christine Angell said ‘The aim is to have a Children’s Centre in every community by 2010, with extra outreach workers to reach the most disadvantaged children; with this extra funding from the Labour Government, we will be able to make that happen.’
