LABOUR GAIN SWANLEY TOWN
Labour has taken control of Swanley Town Council after the elections on Thursday 1 May.
Previously a hung council controlled by Labour on the casting vote of the Chairman, Swanley Town council is now made up of 10 Labour and 6 Conservative councillors.
Ian Rashbrook, newly elected Labour councillor for St. Mary's ward, says: "Labour is firmly back in control of Swanley and we are looking forward to getting on with the job of representing the people of the town."
Labour's vote increased across the town except in one ward were the Liberal-Democrats put up candidates and came in a poor third.
Mike Eddy, Labour Shadow Leader of Kent County Council, says: "This is excellent news for Kent Labour and excellent news for Swanley. Kent is not traditional Labour territory and the Conservatives may be feeling good because they have gained a couple of seats in Maidstone, but the Labour Party is still alive and well in the county."
