KENT COUNTY COUNCIL LAUNCH ANOTHER POINTLESS RECYCLING PR EXERCISE.
Tory controlled Kent County Council have launched another public relations exercise to promote recycling and home composting while scrapping plastics recycling across Kent.
Ray Parker: Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment & Waste criticised the move saying: “Kent’s residents want a worthwhile recycling scheme for as many recyclables as possible. I can’t believe that they can scrap a scheme that actually achieves something, while then spending money on a meaningless public relations exercise”.
Kent’s Tories have taken to recruiting television celebrities to tell people why they should recycle, while scrapping plastics recycling to save a meagre £30,000 from an overall Council Budget of over £1.5 billion.
Kent County Council has a duty to provide facilities to the residents of Kent who choose to be environmentally responsible. The onus now falls on district councils to fill the gap in recycling.
Ray Parker went on to say: “ The Tories talk about partnership working with Kent’s District Councils, then they pull the plug on a valuable service leaving borough and district councils to fill the gap. If local district or borough councils choose to increase their recycling services to make up for KCC’s inadequacies, then you can bet your bottom dollar that Council Tax bills will increase”.
